Zidane “very happy” after son scores on Madrid debut

Enzo Fernández was introduced at half-time and added Madrid’s fourth goal of the evening 18 minutes later.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Zidane highlighted the performances of all the young players but touched upon his son’s milestone from a personal perspective.

"If I take off my coach’s suit, I am very happy for my son," said the 44-year-old.

"As his coach I am very happy for Martin Odegaard, Álvaro Tejero and Rubén Yáñez too, and for all the players who did great work tonight."

Enzo had consistently featured for Real Madrid C and B in recent years, before being promoted to regular first-team training in October.

With a trip to the Nou Camp days away, Zidane took advantage of his side’s 7-1 lead after the first-leg to field a weakened lineup.

Dominican forward Mariano, who has struggled for minutes in a star-studded Madrid outfit, managed to net a hat-trick in the rout.

A James Rodriguez header and a Cesar Murgado own goal rounded out the scoring for Los Blancos.

Now safely in the final 16 of the Copa del Rey, Madrid will turn their attentions to their El Clasico clash with Barcelona on December 3rd.
