Zidane to rest Sergio Ramos for Real Madrid’s clash with Eibar

Zinedine Zidane is set to hand a rest to Sergio Ramos for Real Madrid’s clash against Eibar on Sunday, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper, Marca, have reported that Los Blancos captain, Sergio Ramos, will not take part as his side looks to consolidate its place at the top of La Liga, while extending the one point lead held over fierce rivals, Barcelona.

The ferocious centre back has featured in an exhausting 11 matches of competitive football in August and September alone, with Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup, Champions League and league campaigns taking their toll. The Spaniard has also played in two international matches – taking the total amount of playing time to 1,020 minutes of action.

Taking the 30 year old’s place will be Rafael Varane, who will partner Pepe in the middle of defence.

The two time Champions League winner will prove hard to replace – in six league games this season, Ramos has scored two goals and maintained a pass success rate of 91%.

The temperamental and combative stopper has also maintained a 60% tackle success rate and a 62% header win rate – and of course typical of his fiery personality, has already picked up four yellow cards.

Real Madrid will be attempting to overcome an Eibar side that has managed to win three of their opening six games of the season on Sunday at 3:15pm.
