Zidane: I want to repay Japanese fans for support

Real Madrid ace Zinedine Zidane says he is determined to turn in a great performance against Olimpia to make up to Japanese fans for his disappointing World Cup.

As he prepares for Tuesday's Toyota Cup in Tokyo, Zidane told Marca, "I don't have good memories of the World Cup."

"I missed two games with injury and we were eliminated when I played the third. I felt the support of the Japanese people and their expectation of seeing the World and European champions."

"I now want to repay that support and leave a good impression with the people of Japan. Something I couldn't do with France this year."

He added, "I really want to win this trophy. It would be the third for me since joining Real Madrid and the second this season."

"Winning the Intercontinental Cup will give even more prestige to our Champions League victory last season - as much in Europe as in South America."
