Woodgate completes first Real Madrid hit-out

Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate came through 45 minutes in a training match with the club's youth team.
 
The 25-year-old former Leeds and Newcastle defender looked at ease in the practice match against the youth team at Madrid's Las Rozas training ground.

Although his opponents were aged only 16 or 17-years-old, they presented a stern challenge for Woodgate, who took to the field for the first time since suffering a relapse of his thigh injury on October 7 last year.

The match was also a victory of sorts for Real coach Wanderley Luxemburgo who last week insisted Woodgate would begin his return to action against youngsters despite Madrid vice-president Emilio Butragueno holding a different view.

Afterwards Luxemburgo said he was pleased with Woodgate's performance.

"He looked very good, for the 45 minutes, he did very well," he said.
