Wolfsburg deal on for Real Madrid's Meija

Wolfsburg are in talks with Real Madrid over defender Alvaro Meija.

German officials were in Madrid yesterday to negotiate a deal for the January transfer window for the young centre-half.

Real Betis are also keen on Meija, who is wanted by Wolfsburg on-loan for the second-half of the season with the option of a permanent deal in June.

Madrid coach Mariano Garcia Remon has given the deal the green light and sports director Emilio Butragueno is expected to spend this week thrashing out terms with Wolfsburg officials.
