Wigan chairman Whelan slams Eriksson over Beckham

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has slammed England boss Sven Goran Eriksson over his support for David Beckham.
 
Whelan, who reckons the Swede should have gone after the 'fake Sheikh' scandal, fears England's World Cup dream will end against Portugal tomorrow.

And all because Eriksson refuses to drop his skipper Becks.

Whelan blasted: "We've been very poor so far and everybody in the land knows it. I have been one of Sven's fiercest critics, but I really hope he makes me eat my words.

"Sadly, I'm not convinced he will. He has got to have the guts to drop Beckham.

"But I don't think he will because he keeps believing in Beckham. Nobody should be too big to lose their place.

"But Beckham has become a luxury on the field at this World Cup.

"He doesn't tackle anyone - why he keeps him as captain is just beyond me. John Terry is well qualified to fill that role."
