West Ham make contact with Real Madrid superstar Figo

West Ham United have made contact with the representatives of Real Madrid ace Luis Figo.

The Daily Star says Figo, 32, has a year left on his contract with Real Madrid but has lost his place.

West Ham believe that the Portugal player's desire to play in the Premiership will lead him to accept a cut in his wages from £90,000 a week to the £60,000 they are offering.

The Hammers interest will alarm Newcastle, which have also been in negotiations with Figo about a move to the Premiership.
