Wenger rules out Barcelona switch

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed suggestions he could be lured away from Highbury by the vacancy at Barcelona created by Louis van Gaal's departure.

The Frenchman signed a three-year extension to his current deal at Arsenal last season and he vowed again that he would see it out.

"I expect myself to be with Arsenal for the whole of my contract. I decided to stay here and that was because I had made a choice and I'm committed to this club."

"I haven't been offered the job at Barcelona and I didn't even know van Gaal wasn't working there any more. I don't even have to say 'no' as I haven't been contacted. But I'm staying here."

Dutchman van Gaal paid the price for Barcelona's poor Spanish league form on Tuesday when he left one of the most highly prized jobs in football after only eight months of his second spell in charge of the famous Catalan club.

Barcelona have won all 10 of their Champions League matches this season. But that was not enough for the Barca fans who are furious that their team are 20 points adrift of Liga leaders Real Sociedad.

Van Gaal led Barcelona to two league titles and the Spanish Cup during his first spell in charge from 1997-2000 before taking over as Dutch national boss.
