Wenger: Arsenal doesn't need Real Madrid cash

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists the club has no need to sell Patrick Vieira to Real Madrid.

Spanish sources told The Sun that Gunners vice-chairman David Dein has made it clear he will not listen to offers below £25m.

But Wenger insisted even that sum would not be enough to prise Vieira away from Highbury.

He said: "We don't need money, so money will not decide this situation. Our desire is to keep Patrick - not to make money out of selling him."

"This club needs to have a big team - not a big bank account!"

"We are in a solid financial position. We are not Chelsea, so we have to watch what we spend - but we do not want to sell our best players."

"I've never changed my version, which is Patrick will start the season an Arsenal player."
