Fully aware that today's match against Lyon at the Stade Gerland is one of the most important of the season, Real Madrid's Esteban Granero doesn't doubt his side's ability to overcome their French opponents and progress to the quarter-finals of the Championls League for the first time in five seasons.

As reported by Marca, the Madrid youth product is keen to show against Olympique de Lyon that his side are a Real Madrid side that lives up to its history of being nine-times European champions.

Having suffered dissapointing defeat after disappointing defeat in Europe over the past five years and with their eyes on the Champions League final at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Blanco midfielder has revealed that his team is "very motivated", but well aware that the match will be "very difficult".

El Pirata emphasised his squad's "obligation to win" and believes that this year Los Blancos are destined to taste glory. After ending the 19-year curse at the Riazor against Deportivo La Coruna by finally earning a win this season, Granero believes his team will be able to end the Gerland curse (Madrid have never won in Lyon) as well, to beat the Frenchmen in front of their own crowd.
