Villarreal out to breach Arsenal defence

Villarreal are confident they can prise open Arsenal's miserly European defence and overcome a 1-0 first-leg deficit to reach the Champions League final.

"I believe we've got the ability and the football to overcome Arsenal in the 90 minutes," Villarreal playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme told a news conference on Monday.

"My aim is to help my team score more than one goal and I'm sure we will have our chance to get through to the final."

The Primera Liga side will need to find the net with greater effectiveness than they have done in recent domestic games if they are to overcome Arsene Wenger's side.

They have won just one of their last eight league games while striker Diego Forlan has had a barren spell in front of goal.

Arsenal arrived in Spain without their Swiss central defender Philippe Senderos, who has been sidelined with a knee injury.

His place alongside Ivory Coast's Kolo Toure will be filled in by Sol Campbell, who has struggled to get back into the team after a year plagued by injuries.

Arsenal's defence will be in the spotlight as it tries to record a 10th consecutive clean sheet in European competition.

Two Spaniards will be turning out for Arsenal against their fellow countrymen - Jose Antonio Reyes, who was suspended for the first leg, and midfielder Cesc Fabregas, architect of their quarter-final triumph over Juventus.
