Villalonga Wants To Be Next Real President

The former Telefonica chairman has stated his desire to become the next Real Madrid president and his intention to stand for the post in the upcoming elections.

Reports from the website of station COPE state that Juan Villalonga is expected to match a speech tonight explains his decision to stand for the post and his reasons for wishing to take control of the Los Merengues.

The businessman transformed the fortunes of the telecommunications company, Telefonica, in the late 1990's, but his time in the spotlight was blighted by a whispering campaign that suggested he was involved in insider trading, and he was eventually forced to resign.

It is not his first foray in into investing in football either - the 55-year old has previously been linked with Liverpool, and more recently attempting to wrestle power from Juan Soler at Valencia.

He has made no secret of his interest in Madrid, and his desire to 'put a political twist on the social, economic and sporting factors' at the club.

It is likely that Villalonga would ideally want to appoint his own board of directors in what would be a major upheaval behind the scenes at the Spanish giants. However, the election is not expected to take place until the summer of 2010.
