Villa Avoids Schuster Scuffle

Real Madrid’s summer target David Villa has refused to enter a war of words with Bernd Schuster after the German coach launched a scathing criticism at the forward.

In a recent interview with Marca, Los Merengues boss Bernd Schuster flamed two of the club’s failed summer transfer targets David Villa and Santi Cazorla for refusing to join the Bernabéu outfit.

“It surprises me to see Villa and Cazorla’s lack of ambition when they decided not to come here,” was Schuster rather blunt declaration to the sports paper.

Yesterday, Marca’s convoy with the Spanish national side caught up with the Valencia forward to ask him what he thought of those remarks, but the 26 year old refused to stir up any controversies.

“I don’t have any comments. I am not going to say anything about the matter,” said Villa with a smile, as he chose to focus on his job at hand with La Selección.

Schuster, to his credit, did end up praising La Furia Roja’s sixth all-time leading goalscorer during the interview: “He did very well at the Eurocopa and he continues to show his goal scoring form now with Valencia.”

Real Madrid made countless bids for both Villa and Cazorla just before the September 1 summer transfer deadline but the pair turned down the opportunity to put on the famous white shirt when they chose to remain and sign a new contract with their respective clubs instead.
