Ruud van Nistelrooy turned down the chance to join European Champions Real Madrid before signing for Manchester United, according to reports in the British media on Tuesday.
"I only wanted to play for United although Real Madrid came in for me," the 24 year old striker was quoted as saying by the Sun tabloid.
Van Nistelrooy completed a British record 19 million pound move from PSV Eindhoven, 12 month after the original deal collapsed when he failed a medical examination and then suffered a serious knee ligament injury.
