Van Nistelrooy moves to quash Madrid rumours

Dutch international striker Ruud van Nistelrooy declared he would not be going to Real Madrid and instead would be staying at FA Cup finalists Manchester United.

The 27-year-old had been reported by Marca newspaper on Saturday to have held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez but van Nistelrooy, who ended a near three month goal drought with the equaliser against Chelsea on Saturday, said he had no intention of leaving United.

"At the same time next season I will be here talking about another Premiership season because I am going nowhere," said the Dutchman, who cost 18.5million pounds when he joined from PSV Eindhoven three years ago and which has seen him score 107 goals.

Van Nistelrooy insisted he would like to be around to help United regain the title that they lost without much of a fight this term to Arsenal and as a result of the 1-1 draw with Chelsea finish third and consigned to playing a qualifying round to gain entry into the group stage of the Champions League.

"This result means we have finished third, which is not what we hoped for but we are confident we can improve next season," said van Nistelrooy, who was wheeled out along with Roy Keane and manager Alex Ferguson nine days ago to present a united front and declare they were happy at the club.

Van Nistelrooy said he had been determined after missing his third penalty of the season to get a goal, though he added he hadn't been too concerned about his lack of goals.

"After the penalty, there was only one thing on my mind," he said.

"I wanted a goal."

"The run wasn't bothering me because I have missed a few games through injury and I did score against Manchester City and Fulham in the FA Cup but it was great to get one in the end."
