Van Gaal gets on with job as Barcelona board decide future

Under-fire Barcelona coach Louis van Gaal held a normal training session Monday as his board of directors met to decide his future.

An eighth league defeat this season at the hands of Celta Vigo on Sunday looks like condemning Barcelona to their worst championship showing since 1942.

Barcelona are currently 12th, 20 points behind leaders Real Sociedad, but they have been performing well in Europe, winning 10 consecutive Champions League matches.

Former Dutch national coach van Gaal is in his second stint at Barcelona after a spell in charge between 1997-2000.

Yugoslav Radomir Antic, a former Atletico Madrid coach, Germany's Bernd Schuster, a former Barcelona star now coaching second division Xerez, and Argentina's Under 21 coach Marcelo Pekermann, have been named in the local press as possible successors.
