Van Basten: Sneijder Will Succeed At Real Madrid

Marco van Basten has today expressed his belief that Wesley Sneijder will succeed at Real Madrid.

The Dutch midfielder has been inconsistent this year and has failed to impress on a regular basis for the defending Primera Division champions.

However, Ajax coach Van Basten believes that he will succeed at the club and is an example for young players.

"Many times, youngsters do not think ahead and they prefer money to their own evolution. Wesley was already a key player, with many games under his belt, with Ajax when he decided to make the move, and he gave the club a lot of money. Last season he was crucial in Madrid winning the title and even though he has not been the same this year, I am sure he will succeed," AS quotes him as saying.

Sneijder signed for Madrid back in the summer of 2007 and was impressive during his first season with the club.

However, as the Spanish side have struggled at times this year, so has he, and there have been rumours that he has been putting on weight.

At the age of 24 he still has plenty of his career ahead of him though and he has already won a league title and Supercopa with Madrid.
