Valladolid face Cup experts Bilbao in quarters

Second division Valladolid, having disposed of Real Madrid in the King's Cup earlier this week, were handed a quarter-final tie with 23-time champions Athletic Bilbao when the draw was made on Friday.

Valladolid claimed a thoroughly deserved away goals win over favourites Real after coming from a goal down to earn themselves a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu on Wednesday and will now travel to San Mames for next week's first leg.

Giant-killers Gramenet, who added second division Lleida to their list of victims after knocking out Barcelona and Levante in earlier rounds, were given a daunting task after being drawn against Real Betis.

However, the third division side, who hail from the outskirts of Barcelona, will have the advantage of playing the return leg at home.

"This is a great tie for the club," Gramenet president Francisco Ortega told Radio Marca.

"With all the Andalucians that live in the Barcelona area we are guaranteed to have a huge party and we hope we can keep alive our dreams of making the final."

Sevilla were paired with Osasuna, who beat Getafe 4-3 on aggregate in the only all-Primera Liga tie of the last round, in the most high-powered quarter-final tie.

"Both sides have very passionate fans and they are guaranteed to be two very tough, highly competitive games," said Osasuna president Patxi Izco.

"We beat them two years ago in the quarter-finals and I hope that we repeat the trick once again."

Primera Liga basement side Numancia were matched with nine-time winners Atletico Madrid, who last won the competition in 1996.

The first legs will be played on January 25-26 with the second legs on February 2-3. The semi-final ties will take place on April 20 and May 11 with the final staged on June 11.
