Valdano: Real Madrid system all wrong

Former Real Madrid coach and sports director Jorge Valdano says his old club is in an "institutional crisis".

Asked for his reaction to Real's thumping at Liverpool, Valdano said: "In principle it is an institutional crisis, because Real Madrid is a non-profit. Members vote every four years for its chairman and that produces a board that does not learn."

"When a president starts to get problems at the club under control he is replaced and another arrives with much enthusiasm, but he has to start from scratch."

"I believe we must change the social model because the last three presidents who came to the club failed to complete their mandate, so there is something structural about it that fails to work."
