Valdano denies Rennes claim

Real Madrid sports director Jorge Valdano say that the Spanish giants have no intention of signing defender Anthony Reveillere, contrary to claims from Rennes manager Gerard Lefillatre.

"I don't know what he's talking about," said Valdano. "I don't even know who Gerard Lefillatre is, but what I can say is that Real have no intention at all of signing a player from Rennes."

Lefillatre earlier suggested that Real had sent a scout to watch the 21-year-old right-back.

Bernabeu official Paco Jimenez revealed that he was aware of the promising youngster, but had not made any journey to watch him.

"I have seen videos of Anthony Reveillere in the club, but I haven't travelled to France for months," he said. "I have heard something about this player, but I can't tell you anything more because I have just seen him on videos."

Real are on the lookout for players to join in December, when the transfer market opens in Spain, with the main position to be covered appearing to be the right defensive flank.

Javier Zanetti and Manuel Pablo were targets in the summer, but remained at Internazionale and Deportivo La Coruna respectively.

Lefillatre remains convinced that Reveillere is coveted by Real and a number of other Spanish clubs, but would not reveal the names of the other interested parties.

"There have also been English clubs who have visited to see him play," he continued. "Arsenal are among them." Lefillatre added that Rennes had rejected a £4.4 million offer from an unnamed club.

Reveillere is a product of the youth system at Rennes and has been a regular in the first-team for several seasons.
