Valdano Defends Del Bosque

Jorge Valdano has praised Vicente Del Bosque after the Real Madrid coach was attacked by Diego Maradona last week.

The club's sports director defended his trainer, citing his ability to rule the roost without causing any controversy.

Maradona stated that Del Bosque is a good man, but was not a great coach. The statement obviously ruffled a few feathers in the Bernabeu.

With Madrid having several world-class players in their ranks, Valdano believes that Del Bosque does a great job at keeping all the egos in check.

"Del Bosque is not a revolutionary coach," he explained. "But he does not allow any problems grow around him."

"He understands and identifies with the historic values of Real Madrid."
