Valdano Confirms Makelele Is Set For Chelsea

Real Madrid's sporting director Jorge Valdano has confirmed that French international midfielder Claude Makelele will be joining Chelsea.

The two clubs have now agreed a fee worth 24million euros after Real revealed on Friday that they were demanding more than the 20million euros offered by Roman Abramovich.

"Some guarantees have to arrive on Sunday or by noon on Monday at the latest but otherwise the contracts have been signed," Valdano told Real Madrid's website.

Makelele's arrival at Chelsea will take their summer spending above the £100m mark since Abramovich took over at Stamford Bridge.
