UPDATE: Ronaldo Is Staying At Inter, Says Martins

The curtain appears to have finally closed on the Ronaldo saga after the Brazilian superstar's agent Alexandre Martins made a statement on Wednesday morning confirming 'Il Fenomeno' will stay at Inter.

"Ronaldo has chosen the Italian team. He is an Inter player and will stay at Inter 365 days for 4 years. He has a contract he intends to respect, and therefore he will continue to work with Inter. He still has to speak with the club, but there aren't any talks going on with Real," said Martins.

Earlier today Spanish website Marca.com reported that Real Madrid didn't intend to sign Ronaldo anylonger, a choice that probably led to Martins' unexpected statement.

General manager Jorge Valdano is expected to outline Real Madrid's official position later today.

The former Argentina star had a late-night conversation with Martins, who told Real's gm that the meeting between the player and Inter's board had a negative outcome and that the Italian club was not willing to transfer the Brazilian superstar.

As soon as he was informed of the latest developments, Floretino Perez decided to give up on the deal.

There are several reasons behind this decision.

First of all, Real don't want to spoil the very good relations they have with Inter. In addition the Merengue fans appeared pretty cold in these days with regards to the possible arrival of Il Fenomeno. Last but not least, Real want to keep on giving confidence to Fernando Morientes, who is very appreciated by his teammates.

In the meantime, Ronaldo is training all alone in Appiano Gentile as Cuper and the rest of the team left earlier this morning for Bari where the Nerazzurri will face Juventus and Chelsea in the Birra Moretti three-way tournament.
