United Will Be Bigger Than Real, Says Edwards

Ex-Manchester United chief executive Martin Edwards believes the Premiership giants will overtake Real Madrid and become the world's biggest club.

He said: "Real Madrid have the ability to go out and buy the five best players in the world - there doesn't seem to be a budget there."

"I think eventually Real Madrid will eventually have financial constraints on them."

"We'll just carry on the way we are and I think Manchester United will one day benefit from that and overtake Real Madrid."

"Potential-wise I'm not sure Real Madrid are as big Manchester United."

Real Madrid have repeatedly gone out and brought one of the best players in World Football and have been strongly linked with a move for David Beckham, although this week denied they would move for the player.

However, Edwards, in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, played down the speculation: "I am not aware of Real Madrid approaching Manchester United to buy David Beckham."

"Real Madrid have denied the story and I don't believe Real Madrid are on the brink of purchasing David Beckham," he said.
