Tudor stunner gives Juve dramatic win over Deportivo

A stunning injury-time volley from Croatian Igor Tudor gave Juventus a 3-2 win over Deportivo Coruna in Champions League group D on Wednesday and almost certainly handed them a place in the quarter-finals.

But it put the Spaniards out of the competition.

After Diego Tristan and Roy Makaay had gone close for Deportivo, Juventus took the lead in the 12th minute with defender Ciro Ferrara unchallenged when he met Mauro Camoranesi's corner with a firm header past Juanmi.

Deportivo deservedly drew level in the 34rd minute after Pedro Duscher won the ball from Alessio Tacchinardi, sent it wide to Makaay and the Dutchman's pinpoint low cross was slotted in at the back post by Tristan.

The Spaniards took the lead six minutes after the restart with a superb goal after Makaay turned on the edge of the penalty area and floated a delightful shot over Buffon and into the top corner of the net.

It was a goal that had the potential to knock Juventus out of the competition but 12 minutes later the Italians were back in the game when Trezeguet provided a clinical finish after being fed by Edgar Davids.

The French striker was unlucky not to score again in the 67th minute when his volley from a lob into the area from Tacchinardi came out off the post. Substitute Marcelo Zalayeta missed a great chance two minutes from the end, heading a Lilian Thuram cross wide.

But in the third minute of injury time, Tudor blasted home a 20-metre volley to give his side a win which means they will make it into the last eight if they can avoid a heavy defeat away to Basel next week.
