"Those five goals are yours too": CR7 dedicates quintuplet to team-mates

The Portuguese ace, who surpassed Raul as Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer in La Liga, thanked the dressing room for their support during his goal drought.

On Saturday, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo etched his name into the history books.

With Los Blancos traveling to Espanyol at the weekend, the Portuguese attacked notched five goals against the Catalan side in the 6-0 thrashing, including a hat-trick inside 20 minutes, to take his Liga BBVA goalscoring tally with the Madrid giants to 230 goals.

This means that the 30-year-old surpassed the all-time record held by legend Raul, which stood at 228 goals, a feat Cristiano achieved in only seven seasons (203 games), nine seasons (347 games) less than the time it took the former Spanish international striker.

Ronaldo’s goal-fest bore a lot in meaning for the three-time Ballon d’Or winner not only because it saw him set a new record, but also because it ended a much-talked about six-game goal drought that struck the former Manchester United man.

Cristiano went for over 500 minutes without finding the back of the net for both club and country, with many wondering whether he had lost his hunger for goals, as he drew blanks in Los Blancos’ first two games.

However, during his goalless streak, he received constant support from Les Merengues’ dressing room, thus Ronaldo was eager to show his uttermost gratitude towards his team-mates for being there for him during such a difficult time.

"Those five goals are yours too" was Cristiano’s message of appreciation to his team-mates before they hit the training field on Sunday.

Celebratory mood reigned during their first training session in the wake of Ronaldo’s record-breaking quintuplet, as the Real Madrid number 7 claimed top spot in the Spanish Primera Division goalscoring charts.

Next stop for Ronaldo and Co. is a home clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening game of the 2015-16 Champions League season.
