Spanish referee strike threatens Barcelona v Real match

A threatened strike by Spanish referees could postpone the Primera Liga showdown between leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid on Saturday.

The referees said on Monday they will go on strike if they are not paid outstanding salaries from the last two months, before this weekend's round of matches.

Primera Liga and second division matches on April 1 and 2 are under threat including Barcelona's home game against Real Madrid, and the Seville derby on Sunday.

According to media reports the Spanish referees' committee (CTA) informed the Spanish Football Federation of their unanimous decision, who in turn notified the Spanish Football League (LFP).

The LFP approved a 20 percent increase in salaries last August but referees say they have not received the agreed amounts during the season.
