On Sunday the world's and particularly Spain's attention was drawn to Santiago Bernabeu stadium, where Real Madrid hosted Barcelona FC. Though sometimes the emotions brimmed over, it didn't reflect on the game itself.
The Spanish media expressed the following opinions over the match:
El Pais: "Madrid deserved the win, though Barca had some advantage. Zidane played very well, feeling the constant support of McManaman. Rivaldo still continues keeping silence on the pitch".
El Mundo: "The match was full of disappointment. We expected more from Raul, Figo, Zidane, Rivaldo and Kluivert. It was something unaesthetic, marked by the fight of muscles."
Marca: "Only Madrid believed in their favourites' success. The players entered the pitch full of determination to get three points and they did it. Figo celebrated his birthday with dignity."
AS: "It was McManaman's game. He played for himself and for everybody. The Liverpool disciple can create and play a high-level game. Zidane was also perfect with his neat passes."
The striking feature in the Spanish media was that one and the same match provoked completely different opinions. This comes to prove once more that football is the king of sports and the most polyvalent game in the world.
