Spain easily account for Northern Ireland

Spain easily accounted for Northern Ireland last night winning 3-0 in their Euro 2004 qualifier.

Ruben Baraja grabbed a double and Jose Guti also found the back of the net in an easy win for the Spanish.

"I believe that the general level we displayed was quite acceptable," said Valencia midfielder Baraja.

"What interested most for us is that the three points were obtained. Both goals, without a doubt, are going to give me a great confidence boost - especially after the penalty misses (against Celta Vigo)."

Real Madrid striker Guti also said, "The important thing was the three points, although also I am satisfied by the goal that I have scored."

"To play with Madrid allows you to adjust quickly to playing international football."

"We knew that they were a very weak rival and would defend, but as soon as we have scored the first goal better chances were created. In the main, it was a quite comfortable game for us."
