The 33-year-old told reporters that the deal was clinched in no time at all because of, the interest shown by both parties to see a happy outcome.
Hierro, who joined the Merengues in 1989 from Valladolid went on to express his excitement with the Liga back in action in just a month's time.
The veteran defender said: "I'm fired up and ready to carry on helping the team - it's going to be an exciting year for us. Real is a club that needs to win something every year and with the support of the fans behind us we have a real chance this season."
Regarding new boy Zinedine Zidane, Hierro said: "We have received him as one of the lads, not as the big star. I hope that he settles in quickly, that way he'll be a great benefit to everyone in the team."
