Sevilla president defends Ramos sale to Real Madrid

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido was quick to defend his decision to sell Sergio Ramos to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
 
Yesterday morning he was on local radio and explained: "I have not sold the player because my desire was that he would remain in Seville; Madrid has bought him. It is legal and nothing else can be done."

"The club decided with the player that he would not leave Sevilla unless somebody paid his buyout clause."

"But if someone is willing to pay such a huge amount for a defender, as Real Madrid did, then I don't believe we can be unhappy with that."

"I have fulfilled my promise to the fans. We are not a selling club, but at that price I am bound by law to accept the offer."

"I am not going to enter discussions with Sergio Ramos because he is a player of our juniors who is only 19 years old and already is an international. I wish him all the luck in the world with his new club and the national team and I only can speak well of him."

"He said that he was a Sevillista, but he is also a professional player."
