Sergio Ramos to sign Real Madrid contract extension this Thursday

Real Madrid cente-back Sergio Ramos will reportedly sign his new five-year contract extension this coming Thursday, putting an end to a transfer saga that has consumed the headlines this summer.

According to La Sexta, Ramos has finally agreed to accept Real Madrid’s offer to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2020 with a €8.5 million yearly salary with both sides announcing the deal this coming week.

Less than a week after Cadena SER reported that Ramos had rejected Real Madrid’s offer, La Sexta states that the two sides have reached an agreement to add three years onto the new captain’s contract and agreed to a €8.5 million yearly salary, that will move closer to the player’s requested €10 million salary with the incentives included in deal.

The negotiations between Ramos and Real Madrid re-started while on the club’s pre-season tour of China, as reported interest from Manchester United forced president Florentino Perez’s hand.

While the club and player are happy with the new deal, Manchester United will leave with a bitter taste in their mouths, as it appears that their negotiations with the Spanish international were merely a way for Ramos to gauge his market value and force Real Madrid to break their stance in the negotiations.

Real Madrid have agreed to the new deal to not only reward Ramos for his decade of tremendous play and loyalty, but also to smooth over the cracks caused by the abrupt departure of club legend Iker Casillas earlier this summer.
