Sergio Canales: I Will Have My Chance At Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s rising star Sergio Canales insists that he will be given his fair share of first team opportunities by coach Jose Mourinho, and that he will soon be fit enough to compete for a starting berth.

The Spanish u-21 international has missed the last three weeks due to an ankle injury, and speculation has grown this week that a loan switch back to former club Racing Santander could be on the cards.

However, speaking in an interview with AS, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder reckons once he has fully recovered, Mourinho will provide him with the chance to regularly represent los Blancos.

He stated: “My ankle is fine. It has responded for me in my training sessions and has not given my any trouble. It is true that I have departed for a few weeks, but things are going well for me. There are always injuries. What you need to do is overcome this."

"The league is very long, Madrid have many games and there will be opportunities for everyone. [Mesut] Oezil is stiff competition. I really enjoyed watching him at the World Cup, and he is producing very good performances. It helps me to learn from him on how to play and how easy he makes things. He is a great player."

Canales is currently part of La Roja’s u-21 squad for their vital 2012 Olympic qualifying match with Croatia.
