Schuster Reflects On First Four Months At Real Madrid

Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster commented on his first four months at the helm of the Spanish giants, whom he has kept at the top of the table going into the New Year.

Schuster, who was born in Augsburg in 1959, is a coach who would usually rather skip press conferences, but this time he spoke exclusively to Spanish journal Marca.

The German analyzed his first four months at Real Madrid, club who he has helped maintain in top position of the Spanish league standings going into the New Year.

“This Real Madrid squad can mark an era,” Schuster told Eduardo Inda and Juan Ignacio Gallardo, two directors at Marca.

When asked about what he has in common with former Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello, the German was very sincere:

“I don’t like it when my style is compared with that of Fabio Capello’s.”

Schuster affirmed that he always dreamt about coaching Real Madrid, and that the most difficult thing to get used to was the demand of the media.

“Coaching Real Madrid has always been a dream of mine, and it has made me happy from the first day."

“The thing that was the most difficult for me was adapting myself to the press, I wasn’t used to this, but the president has been preoccupying himself with working to put the club back where it belongs: a club that first of all is concerned with football.”

The former Real Madrid midfielder concluded by praising his team, who have been excelled in La Liga and find themselves top at the Christmas break.

“Real Madrid are a team who are very difficult to play against, because of the quality they have. We are playing well, but not as good as we would like.”
