Schuster: No chance Real Madrid can prise Wenger from Arsenal

Bernd Schuster says Real Madrid are kidding themselves if they think they can prise Arsene Wenger away from Arsenal under their present setup.

The former Real coach said: "When a big coach is not given control over all the areas we've been talking about, it is going to be very difficult. Now we are talking about someone who I cannot imagine will come."

Asked if that person was Wenger, Schuster said: "Of course. Now, if Florentino brings in a sporting director, I have doubts if he [Wenger] would accept this. In all his time at Arsenal he has been more than a coach. The same as [Sir Alex] Ferguson or Benitez. I imagine they would say, 'I make the team'. If you put a person above them it could complicate things more than help them. In negotiations, what's going to be their role?"

"If you want to bring in a big coach, like Ancelotti, Wenger, Mourinho... why can't you give them sole control and let them get on with it?"
