Saviola wants to emulate Morientes at Monaco

Monaco's new loan signing Javier Saviola is keen to emulate Spain striker Fernando Morientes who helped the principality team to the Champions League final during a spell with them last season.

Real Madrid's Morientes, who has returned to the Spanish club, was the top scorer in last season's Champions League with nine goals and his performances for Monaco earned him a recall to the national side.

Barcelona forward Saviola has been loaned to Monaco for a year.

"Morientes did a great job here," the Argentine told a news conference on Tuesday. "I hope to be able to perform as well as he did."

"I have not set myself any challenge when coming here. But I want to do my best to help Monaco to have another good season."

"I've said I will come back to Barcelona and it will be through the front door," the 22-year-old added. "This is the reason why I want to achieve something here."

Saviola, a member of Argentina's gold medal winning squad at the Olympics, was joined Barcelona from River Plate in July 2001 for $28 million.
