Sávio seeks Lyon transfer

Lyon are targeting Real Madrid's Brazilian attacking midfielder Sávio after their failed bid to land Argentine Marcelo Gallardo.

The 27-year-old Sávio saw little action in Real's domestic championship run this season, and therefore likely would welcome a move to the French side. He would be a solid addition to the Lyon midfield, where he could see action in the middle or even on the left side.

According to French press reports, the move could go through quickly, as the start of the French season on July 25 adds a bit of urgency to Lyon's attempts to bolster their squad for next year.

Sávio previously starred for Brazilian side Flamengo from 1992 to 1997, when he departed for Europe and Real Madrid. However, he never really found his niche in Spain, and scored just 16 goals in four seasons at Real.

Should the move to France become reality, Sávio would join fellow Brazilians Cláudio Caçapa, Edmilson and Sonny Anderson at Lyon.

The French side also signed Brazilian Juninho Pernambucano from Vasco da Gama, but problems with the Brazilian Labor Justice are impeding the player's transfer.
