Santos president tells Real Madrid to forget Robinho

Santos president Marcelo Teixeira is digging in his heels over the possible move to Real Madrid for star turn Robinho.

After a week of fresh speculation that Robinho's switch to the Spanish giants was imminent, Teixeira declared: "Robinho is very important for the future projects of Santos, especially for the pick up of new sponsorship partners and supporters."

"Robinho is the image of Santos."

He added: "The best gift I can give fans today is that Robinho will not leave us at the end of this season. He will remain with Santos until after the World Cup."

Despite Teixeira's declaration, Robinho can still play hard ball and insist on a move to Real Madrid as he owns 40 per cent of his own registration.
