Samuel delighted to have Woodgate at Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Walter Samuel has welcomed the arrival of former Newcastle United defender Jonathan Woodgate.

Samuel will be expected to form a new-look central defensive partnership with the England international and said: "I was happy to hear about Woodgate's transfer. I don't know a lot about him, but I hear he's an excellent player."

"This is something that the club has decided and I'm sure they have made an excellent choice. All the players welcome him to Real Madrid."

He added, "Everyone has treated me very well here and with him, it will be the same. What counts in all this is that those that have come here were important players and respected at their former clubs."
