Salgado Delighted With Raul

Michel Salgado has praised the class and spirit of Raul after the Real Madrid striker had another outstanding performance against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

But the Spanish international defender also had words of consolation for the club's misfiring forward Ronaldo.

"Games like that have become the norm for Raul and that is great," Salgado explained.

"He is so important for us and is going to break all possible records in football."

"But perhaps the most important thing he gives the team is his spirit."

"It always affects everyone when a teammate has such a winning spirit."

"This team has stayed at the top so long not just because of the arrival of quality players."

"I believe that it is the base of players that has played together for six or seven years together that have made this team winners and the others have just added to that."

Salgado then reflected on the attention given to Ronaldo during his poor run of form.

"Ronaldo is not having the best time of his career, but he knows that."

"He is not happy with his form, but he will get over that. Maybe he is happier playing away from home where he is given more space to move."

"But if it was any other player nobody would giving it so much thought. Every player has bad moments in a season."

"What is important now is that we refocus on the league because you have to be very careful after a big game in the Champions League that you do no lose the next domestic game."

"Against Dortmund it was very hard and it will another tough game against Valladolid. There is a margin of error, but even in the league that can cost you."

"We have to remain mentally strong and make ourselves unbeatable in the Bernabeu if we are to win the league."
