Salgado concern at offensive tactics

Michel Salgado reckons Real Madrid should try to be less offensive during their domestic and European games especially when they are in the lead.

Salgado's comments come in the wake of a string of poor results in the league that have seen last season's champions pick up just five points from their five opening games.

Salgado explained: "Sometimes the ball just won't go for us and against Valladolid perhaps we should have been more careful to hang on to our lead, basically it would be wiser to be a little more conservative".

The defender admitted that Real have always had an offensive style of play, which has been their downfall recently.

Del Bosque encourages wing backs to join the attacks which sometimes leaves the team exposed at the back, but Salgado jumped to the defence of centre-back Fernando Hierro, who has been the subject of much criticism from the stands.

He said: "It is not for me to stand up for Hierro, he's the captain, the boss and he always gives 100 per cent on the pitch. If he makes a mistake, then we all do because the errors on the field are collective."
