Salgado and Varela called up for international action

Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado and Real Betis defender Fernando Varela has joined the Spanish team that will take on Greece on Saturday in a Euro 2004 qualifier.

Carlos Puyol and Pablo Orbaiz went out of the Spanish squad because of injuries, and was replaced today, with Salgado and Varela.

Salgado played his last international cap against Portugal on February 13, and that was the 26-year-old's 18th cap.

This is the first time Varela gets an international call-up.
