Ronaldo will stay but won't play

Ronaldo will not play for Inter Milan again even if the club refuses to let him join Real Madrid, according to his agent Reinaldo Pitta.

Pitta told Spain's leading sports daily Marca: "If Moratti makes him stay he will do so, but one thing is for sure: he won't play for Inter."

"We want to go to Madrid. We have already reached an agreement with them and we could sort a transfer out in a few minutes."

Inter president Massimo Moratti had responded to Ronaldo's comments that he wanted to move to Spain by saying that the player would remain at the club for at least one more season.

According to Pitta, Ronaldo had only talked to Real because Morrati had said that Inter players were free to leave at the right price over the summer.

"That's why Ronaldo was free to negotiate. He did so well at the World Cup that Inter changed its mind. But we didn't," the agent said.

"We're optimistic and we hope that in the next few hours the situation will be resolved."

"We're waiting for a call that will tell us that everything has been sorted out with a particular club and the one we want, the one which interests us, is Madrid."
