Ronaldo takes swipe at former Real Madrid boss

With Los Blancos getting off to a perfect start under Zinedine Zidane, the Portuguese star let it be known that their recent form has coincided with an improved atmosphere around the Club.

It was a good weekend at the office for Real Madrid, as they hit five past Sporting Gijon to make it 10 goals in two games under Zinedine Zidane.

The Frenchman, who replaced Rafa Benitez as coach of the club two weeks ago, has had a perfect start to life in charge, leading his side to a 5-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna, followed by a 5-1 triumph over Gijon.

Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a brace in the latest win, and in support of Zizou, took a subtle jab at Benitez after the match.

"There has been a different mood at Real Madrid," Ronaldo told reporters. "It’s a step in the right direction."

"We have a better understanding with Zidane, but that is football. Zidane and Benitez both wanted the best for the club, but it’s a question of empathy."

"Zizou knows how to treat the players, and it’s an advantage that we’ve known him for some time."

CR7 also compared his new coach to Carlo Ancelotti, who of course led Madrid to the club’s 10th Champions League title in the 2013/14 season.

"I see shades of Carlo in Zidane," he said. "Along with having a similar approach, Zinedine has a similar character."

"He is calm and serious, but knows how to enjoy himself and get along with players."
