Brazilian ace Ronaldo is facing a race to be fit for Real Madrid's weekend derby date with Atletico Madrid after suffering a leg injury in his country's World Cup qualifying win over Venezuela on Wednesday.

Ronaldo scored in the 3-0 win which saw the five-times world champions come top of the South American group after Argentina's loss to Uruguay but complained of pain in his quadriceps muscles as he reported back for Real training.

Real were set to give him a fitness test Friday morning to determine if he would be ready potentially to fire Real to the top of the table after the club's recent resurgence in La Liga.

The club are currently third, two points behind surprise early leaders Getafe while Atletico are in mid-table.
