Ronaldo delighted as Real Madrid lift title

A double from Ronaldo helped Real Madrid secure the Spanish Liga championship last night after defeating Athletic Bilbao 3-1.

Ronaldo's close pal, Roberto Carlos, also got on the scoresheet as Real saw off nearest challengers Real Sociedad, who also won last night.

Afterwards, a delighted Ronaldo said: "The season has finished perfectly. We are very pleased, mainly myself, as I have won my first Liga title."

"I must admit I am very delighted. We all deserve this title. In my first season I must say that I am happy. Real Madrid has deserved the Liga."

He added, "The year I had with Barcelona was more spectacular. But I have returned to Spain a more complete player. The Liga was what I needed and I am delighted to win it."

"The most important thing is to continue improving and scoring goals."

Real trainer Vicente del Bosque, who will sign a new 12-month contract extension today, also said: "It is important to speak of our excellent consistency, because to lose only four games indicates that we have done very well."

"We played good football and we have added many, many points, which we needed to because of Real Sociedad and their excellent campaign."

On the game, Del Bosque added, "It's true that it was very tough in the first-half. We needed Roberto Carlos' goal to settle us. After half-time they struggled to keep pace with us and we deservedly won."
