The long-awaited debut of Real Madrid's new signing Ronaldo has been thrown into doubt after the player ended training on Monday complaining of pain in his left ankle.
Real said that they would wait until later on Tuesday before deciding if the Brazilian striker could be included in the squad to face Belgian side Genk in Wednesday's Champions League group C match.
Ronaldo, who moved to Real from Inter Milan for 45 million euros ($44.03 million) at the end of last month, had just recovered from a minor muscle strain in his left leg and has not yet played a game for his new side.
Real are also likely to be without French international midfielders Zinedine Zidane and Claude Makelele who both missed the weekend's 4-1 league win over Osasuna because of minor knee injuries.
The defending European champions top group C after an impressive 3-0 win away to Roma last week. Opponents Genk kicked off their first ever Champions League campaign with a goalless draw at home to AEK Athens.
