Italian champs AS Roma have been eyeing Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes according to reports in Spain on Thursday.
The club headed by former boss Fabio Capello asked about the availability of the player just five days after he underwent an operation to mend a niggling groin problem.
Roma's Franco Baldini phoned Real back in May with a $US 30m offer for Morientes, only to be told that the player was not for sale.
Despite the fact that Real are scouring the market for another striker, the club wants to hang on to the Spanish international and should be renewing the player's contract at some point in the summer.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Bodo Illgner's future could be with Turks, Besitkas - the German keeper has left Madrid after five years with the Spanish champions.
