Roma-Dynamo game stopped after referee struck by thrown object

Bayer Leverkusen, which lost in the final to Real Madrid in 2002, defeated the Spanish club 3-0 on Wednesday in the most stunning upset in the opening round of the Champions League.

In Rome, a match between Roma and Dynamo Kiev was stopped at halftime with Dynamo leading 1-0 after Swedish referee Anders Frisk was hit in the head by an object thrown from the stands as he left the field. Frisk was helped off the field with blood streaming down his forehead and face.

As Frisk blew the whistle to end the first half, he gave a red card to Roma defender Philippe Mexes for pushing down a Dynamo defender. Frisk decided his assistants were too inexperienced to take over the match. UEFA will decide in the next few days when to complete the match.
