Roberto Carlos to stay at Real Madrid

Real Madrid fullback Roberto Carlos has quashed speculation over his future by committing himself to the Spanish giants.

The 33-year-old Brazilian "will see out his contract with the team", read a brief statement on the official Real website, www.realmadrid.com.

According to Spanish newspapers, Carlos made the decision to stay after a long meeting on Tuesday at the team's Austrian training camp with newly-appointed coach Fabio Capello and the club's management.

The left back, who won his first cap for Brazil in 1992 and was a member of the losing side in the 1998 World Cup final and the winning one in 2002, has helped Real Madrid win three Spanish League titles since he joined the club in 1996.

He has a year remaining on his contract with Real Madrid.
